Gord Coulthart

After a lifetime spent creating worlds for animation, Gord turned his attention to the landscape that shaped him.

Gord Coulthart has spent his career as an artist, cartoonist and animator. Raised on a dairy farm near Morewood, Ontario, his work has always been rooted in drawing, storytelling and observation.

Today, Gord’s paintings carry that storytelling into the Canadian landscape. Rooted in the forests, waterways and changing seasons of Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, his work is a contemporary continuation of Canada’s rich landscape painting tradition. His approach is bold, expressive and distinctly his own, which is why his paintings are sought after by art lovers in Canada and around the world.

A Life in Animation and Cartooning

Gord began his professional art career in 1977, building a career that would span animation, cartooning and television.

His early animation work included productions such as Heavy Metal and The Raccoons. He later became a partner in Funbag Animation, where he produced For Better or For Worse and created and directed the animated television series King.

As a cartoonist, Gord co-created Farcus, a syndicated comic strip that appeared in more than 500 newspapers around the world.
